about Me

John GLOZEK, JR.

John’s interest in music started very early on while he was in elementary school. While in fourth grade he walked down to the band room and asked the band director if he could join the band. The band director told him they needed trumpet players. He was thrilled and played trumpet for a year and a half until he received some bad news. His dentist said he would need braces. That immediately ended his trumpet career.
He thought about his options —piano, guitar or drums. Thinking about it he came to the conclusion that it would take two arms and 10 fingers to play piano. That seemed like a lot of work at the time for an 10 year old. It would take the same to play guitar. With those two options ruled out he realized that it only takes four limbs to play drums. Doing the math, 10 versus four, playing drums was it.

At the early age of 10 John started taking private drum lessons. At 16 he was fortunate to take lessons from Al Miller which, over the years, turned into a lifelong friendship. It was while taking lessons with Al that he met Dom Famularo. It was Dom who would ultimately change John’s entire drumming career. This lead to a 25-year professional music career as a drum instructor and a very proficient drummer in several bands in the New York area. These bands performed during the mid -70’s and -80’s. Not completely satisfied with just playing, he eventually began to write and publish drum instructional material for is students. This lead to John creating a magazine for drummers titled ‘Drum Tracks’ which was distributed worldwide.

With over 30 years in the publishing business John realizes that it’s all about relationships. Over the years he has learned the ins & outs of promoting, marketing, branding, advertising, sales, and building relationships.

Working at a drum shop on Long Island for over a decade gave John the opportunity not only to immerse himself into everything drums but lead to a wonderful teaching career, the chance to play with amazing musicians, and to spend time with the greatest drummers of our time.

While publishing Drum Tracks he had the opportunity to interview drummers such as Joe Franco (the Good Rats), Tico Torres (Bon Jovi), Steve Smith (Journey and Vital Information), Peter Erskine (Maynard Ferguson), Kenny Aronoff (John Cougar Mellencamp), Chester Thompson (Phil Collins), Anton Fig (The Late Show with David Letterman), Tom Brechtlein (Chick Corea)… and many more.

Truth be told, John took a very long hiatus from drums, spending the last three decades publishing a northeast regional golf magazine (NYGOLF Magazine). Always having drums in his heart, he was thrilled to spend the last 15 years working for (and with) Dom Famularo (Drumming’s Global Ambassador).
