It has been three decades since “It’s Your Move” was released. I often wonder, how long does it take for a book to become a classic. I’m pretty sure you would agree that books the likes of Syncopation by Ted Reed, Stick Control by George Laurance Stone, Jim Chapin’s Independence book, and even Gary Chaffee’s four volume series Patterns books are, not only classics but, must haves in your collection.
If you have not been through Dom Famularo’s, “It’s Your Move” it’s long overdue that you do. It’s also long overdue that this book become a classic. The material contained here covers a cross section of material — warm-up exercise, stroke exercises, motion exercises, a Precision Test, and so much more. It is a book that you could go through for a lifetime — going though it over and over again. It lays a strong foundation for a lifelong career in drums.
Full disclosure, this book is not geared towards the beginner but if you are an intermediate and certainly an advanced player I’ll say this — it’s your move!
